Spring Fever
Braindon sits away from the classroom window to avoid any distractions. Dimmy goes to the classroom window, opens it, and climbs out. Braindon wears comfortable clothing so he can concentrate on his learning. Dimmy wears the bare minimum so he can work on his tan. Braindon rides his bicycle to school so he can enjoy some fresh air and sunshine before and after school. Dimmy misses his bus so he can enjoy some fresh air and sunshine during school. Braindon wears sunglasses to and from school to protect his eyes from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet glare. Dimmy wears his sunglasses in class to protect himself from his teacher’s glare. Braindon moves his alarm clock ahead one hour for daylight savings time. Dimmy moves his alarm clock out of his room for daylight sleep-in time. Braindon eats more fresh fruit and vegetables as they become available in the spring. Dimmy puts tiny little umbrellas in the sodas that wash down the glue sticks he’s eaten. Braindon spends more after-school time at the park looking for friends for a pick-up baseball game. Dimmy spends more after-school time at the park looking for trouble. Braindon asks for book ideas so he can get a head start on his summer reading. Dimmy asks for movie ideas so he can get a head start on his summer watching. Ending the School Year
Braindon carefully creates three files from all of his school papers for the year. One file is for future reference, one is for his portfolio, and one file is work he wants to improve over the summer. Dimmy makes three piles. One to flush in the boys’ bathroom, one to throw out the third floor window, and one pile to be shredded and spread all over the school hallways. Braindon sorts his pencils, sharpens the good ones, and puts them away for next year. Dimmy sorts his pencils, sharpens the good ones, and sticks them into the classroom ceiling tiles. Braindon makes careful observations at the class picnic, writing notes and drawing pictures of all the flora and fauna he observes. Dimmy draws mustaches on all of his classmates in their yearbooks. Braindon anonymously leaves a wrapped present in a gift bag on each teacher’s desk. School Year
Braindon starts going to bed earlier and earlier as the start of school approaches in an effort to be ready for the first few weeks of morning classes. Dimmy starts going to bed later and later as the start of school approaches in an effort to sleep though the first few weeks of class. Braindon makes sure he has his materials – a notebook and folder for each subject and a full supply of pencils, pens, erasers, and art supplies. Dimmy makes sure he has his materials – rubber bands, paperclips, and a laser pointer. Braindon proudly wears his new school clothes and takes care to keep them free of dirt and stains. Dimmy proudly wears whatever he found on his bedroom floor. Braindon takes careful notes in each class of the teacher’s behavioral and academic expectations. Braindon asks for extra homework whenever homework is assigned. He knows that homework keeps his brain active and learning all day long. Dimmy asks for extra late deadline extensions whenever homework is assigned. He knows that excuses and reasons for later due dates keep his brain active and scheming all day long. Braindon puts his homework assignment in his folder on the “homework” side so that he can find it later and get it done. Dimmy dips his homework assignment paper into nacho cheese at lunch and eats it. Braindon goes right to his room and begins his homework as soon has he gets home. Dimmy goes right to his room and takes a long nap as soon as he gets home. Braindon gets himself ready to work at his desk at home. He uses the bathroom before he begins so he can work uninterrupted. Dimmy goes to the bathroom at home and immediately flushes his textbook down the toilet. Braindon calls the “homework hotline” whenever he has a question about his homework. Dimmy calls the “homework hotline” to report that he has homework and asks them what they can do about it. Braindon likes to stay up-to-date on his homework so he’s ready for the occasional big project. Dimmy becomes the big project for his teacher who is trying to keep him up-to-date on his overdue work. Braindon makes a copy of every assignment for his records and in case the teacher ever loses his work. Dimmy makes copies of everyone else’s assignments for his records and in case the teacher asks him later for make-up work. |
